The Hot is Here to Stay

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Well…that’s it, folks; it’s official.  Summer is here and it’s not going to be getting any cooler for a while.  Enjoy the longer days, bar-b-q’s, swimming, and sun.  The lake still isn’t up to a satisfactory level for those using it recreationally, but at least it’s still here!
Balthazar and I swam in it just this [...]

Gainesville Revokes Local Business License

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Silver Stars has been shut down indefinitely for failure to obtain a proper business permit. Funny thing is, they were given a permit to do business originally. After these several months, the City Council’s office has finally over-ruled the original permit granted.

The Lumberjacks were Here

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

This morning a guy with a fluorescent-green shirt came to the door a little after 8:00am. “It’s a little too early to be sporting that color,” I thought. Apparently, after 7 or 8 years now, it was time for the local officials to take notice of a small stand of Mimosa trees I [...]

Silver Stars: A Sensual Boutique

Monday, October 29th, 2007

It was about a year ago that I wrote about Gainesville’s decision to close its doors to the occult. If you’re on the business end of the occult, maybe now is a good opportunity to try out your entrepreneurial venture again! Gainesville is now the happy home of one Silver Stars: A Sensual [...]

A Night of Amazing Celtic Music!

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

My wife and an old high school friend of ours, Colin Blackledge, have put together a most remarkable double-event concert this Friday off the downtown square in Gainesville. Seven Nations and Emerald Rose will be performing in the small pizza bar venue that is the Monkey Barrel. For $15.00, you can get in [...]

“…and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”

Friday, August 24th, 2007

In Gainesville recently, I witnessed the burning bush. And behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was consumed, and the fire department put it out.
I don’t even think they waited for the words of the prophecy.

Gainesville’s Finest

Monday, April 16th, 2007

I don’t have particularly bad luck with police officers, but it just seems as though most of them don’t have very personable personalities. Friday night at Oodle’s in Gainesville proved otherwise. Two officers were eating at Oodles where my wife, son, and I frequent. Balthazar noticed the cars outside while we ate [...]

Bella Lingerie, not just for Women…

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Bella Lingerie saw their first male customer today…shopping for themselves. Krista took care of the gentleman in the most professional way and treated him just like any customer. She even offered a personal fitting, which he declined. He had some pretty specific needs in mind, which I guess anyone shopping for a [...]

A Night at the Boiler Room

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

We’ve never been the type of crowd that hangs out at the Boiler Room on a Saturday night. Tonight didn’t change that, even though we did spend this Saturday in the depths of hip-hop dancing, drinking, and masquerade festivities. Probably as good a taste as we could get in their atmosphere. It’s [...]
