What is Hentai?

I get a lot of comment spam with the word hentai mentioned. I get that it must be something erotic from the context, but that’s it. Sometimes it’s in the same random group of words as handjob and Asian. When did Asian become a dirty word? I’m a little afraid to do any searches with the word Asian. Comment spam seems to go in cycles and is probably a good measure of current trends and interests. Hentai Asian handjob porn seems to be a big interest lately. I remember when comment spam was cute. They used to say “I really like your site!” followed by a link to some unknown website. Now it’s drugs to increase your member size or pornography references I don’t even get. Oh, and the latest version of Akismet for WordPress isn’t seemingly catching any more spam than it used to. As of 2007, I am routinely having to moderate comment spam on this blog somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-30 a day. This is a far cry from the thousands being blocked outright by Akismet, but in 2006 I only had to moderate half a dozen or so…a month! The spammers have evolved.

Microsoft Research tells us about some intelligent software able to make decisions on availability versus message importance. The workforce potentially loses lots of productive time attending to unimportant emails. Worse still, unimportant messages can cut into personal time. This system is designed to do the human part of risk analysis in order to determine whether a message is important at that point in time. The concept is really cool, though it’ll suck when spammers figure out how to take advantage of it. I’m also unsure how ~~secretaries~~ administrative assistants will like the idea of a piece of code replacing a big part of their jobs. Not that that’s all they do, but you get the point.
